Client Stories

Dutch Referred to Capital Area Veterinary Specialist-Texas Veterinary Oncology because her dog Dutch had a 1.6 pound tumor on his liver, Laura Longoria didn´t know what to expect. What could be the chances be for a 15 ½ year old dog that needed such a serious surgery? But Coach Longoria, who´d been given Dutch as a surprise gift after a winning basketball season, had heard such praise for Dr. Caplan and her capable CAVSTVO team she was willing find out what the doctor could accomplish. And, she was happy she did. Shortly after surgery Dutch was back to normal and today he´s living cancer free. And the Coach had added her voice to those who cheer for Dr. Caplan. Hear her story here.

Leo

When his dachshund was mauled by a pit bull, Eddie Gonzales thought it was the end of his cherished four-legged friend. One of the dog´s ears was close to severed and the vicious wounds to his neck put his life in jeopardy. Leo´s injuries were so severe his last best hope was Capital Area Veterinary Specialist and Dr. Elaine Caplan. The surgery was successful but Eddie feared his beloved pet would never be the same. But with the assurances of Dr. Caplan and the care of her doting staff Leo thrived and has even gone on to become a CAVSTVO rock star. See how, here.

Balou

...want you to know what a blessing it was to have him fairly healthy this last year. Thank you for taking care of him (and me). Dr. Daly, please pass on to the owner(s) of CAVS what an asset Rebecca is to your practice. Her "Hi Handsome" greeting to Balou every appointment is way up there on my list of blessings.

Rooby

Rooby

Dr. Caplan -

I just wanted to share some pictures of Rooby now that we're back home in Rockwall. She's doing well and being a very good girl about getting her rest & being quiet. We carry her outside for bathroom breaks & then she goes right back in her playpen to rest. She feels quite special and is enjoying her elevated status. ;-)

You and your staff are top notch & everyone there was a pleasure to work with. Thank you again for your attention to Rooby's situation. You took the time to talk to me and explain everything in great detail and I am forever grateful to your for the excellent care you provided to Rooby.

Best Regards,
Hope Hodges

Emmie's Story

It's been over 2 years since I lost my 4 year old Beagle, Georgia, to Lymphoma. When my 10 year old Beagle, Emmie, was diagnosed with Cancer I was determined not to lose another dog to this disease (at least not without a fight). I started doing research online and quickly decided that there weren't any stories about survival and I decided to stop looking.

Thankfully our hometown, Austin, TX, has a fantastic specialty vet with a wonderful Oncologist. He provided us with affordable options for treating her Mast Cell Tumor that had spread to her lymph nodes. We are now halfway through Emmie's Chemo and I have decided that I should tell her story. I plan to backtrack and start with her diagnosis and take you through her treatments and hopefully continue through to a cancer free diagnosis. I hope this blog can help provide a positive story for other pet owners who find themselves with a pet who is diagnosed with cancer.

Please know that I am not a vet and am simply a pet owner passing along information that I have found to be helpful.

Rusty

In this situation, Thank You seems completely inadequate. You didn’t have to do what you did for Rusty and my family, but I am so thankful you did. I know any others would not.

Rusty is such a part of my family, and I mean the ENTIRE family. My parents, my family & my brother, his wife, and my niece all live out in the country together. Rusty runs between the homes, whoever is outside is where he wants to be. He has a well worn trail between my house and my brother’s. In fact, when my niece and my grandson run down to her house, they run out the door yelling “we’re taking Rusty’s trail.”

Often, myself or my husband will be driving up our road to the house, we’ll look over there goes Rusty flying through the field coming home to greet us – he’d been down visiting my sister.

My brother often talks about one morning he was leaving for work, Rusty was down here seeing him off as usual, Todd forgot something in the house, set his breakfast sandwich on the console of the truck, came back and Rusty AND the sandwich were long gone.
Rusty is loved by many, including my son and his wife and my 2 grandsons. My 7-year-old viece was devastated at the idea of possibly losing Rusty.

Rusty’s “sick pen” has been set up in my dining area. On Thanksgiving I considered moving him out… I mean having a dog right by the table during Thanksgiving, formal china and everything? Nope, I decided he got to have Thanksgiving with us. I was barely done with my plate and my son grabbed a piece of ham off of it and gave it to Rusty. So, he had Thanksgiving dinner too.

The day before I called your office asking for help I was so depressed I didn’t get out of bed, except to tend to Rusty. After your office told me what you were willing to do, I sat and cried. Today, as I prepare to come pick him up…. I am happier than I’ve been in a long time.

You have made Christmas very joyous for an entire family and we are eternally grateful to you and your staff.

I hope you have a wonderful, wonderful Christmas and New Year’s. You are truly blessed to be able to do what you have a passion for, and to have the heart and ability to spread the joy.

If there is ever anything you need, you have a realtor (me) who would take good care of you. And my brother is one of the top managers at Champion Toyota, and he’ll give you a hell of a deal!!!

Thank You,
